BRUSSELS

Beautiful Palais Stoclet.

Some time ago I vistited an extremely inspiring exhibition by Sir Roger Ballen in Vienna.
The photographs shown during the exhibition portrayed people outside society [finally, these photographes were exonerated from a voyeuristic perspective, which [at least to me] is the reason for their extreme impact!].
And I have to say: Roger Ballen opened a hole new world to me. Finally I found in art what I was looking for so long. [So to say: Roger Ballen gave me somehow back my belief in art]

Furthermore, it turned out, that he should be the reason for my trip up north.
Why?
Because of this video (which I first saw at the exhibition, and which I absolutely fell into), I knew I had to go see their concert, which turned out to be held in Brussels. Short time later, I found out, that the great Cat Power should stay in Munich to give another concert. Finally, Cologne - with it's incredible cathedral - seemed to be the perfect stop in between.

To mention one more thing:
Thank you so much to the girl who recommended the [Roger Ballen] exhibition to me. [I met her by accident, visiting another exhibition, which turned out, was not even half of an inspiring adventure as the one I mentioned beyond.]
Without her, I probably had never done this great trip.

I would never have seen these two concerts. [Right, there is a quite safe assumption, that I would have joined the concert by Cat Power. Munich is close to Vienna.]
I would never have had that absolutely gorgeous chance encounter with these beautiful elderly people from Great Britain who were members of a club for tramway-lovers, travelling through Europe together. And this funny [bit crazy though] guy from germany who I all together met on the train to Brussles. [ .."1456... 744577... 30008..." - (bingo!) - ]
I would not have seen the 48 portraits of important men by Gerhard Richter - which is indeed curious, because short time before, I was visiting the exhibition by Gottfried Helnwein. Standing in front of his 48 portraits of important women, I thought by myself: It would be great to see the piece by Richter, which is the reason why this one by Helnwein exists. Visiting the museum in Cologne, I was overwhelmed to stumble [really, by accident; I didn't know that these were presented there] over these portraits.
Last but not least, I would not have had another great chance encounter with a jazz-musician, who was sitting in the train next to me on the way back home. We had a such great conversation.

Watching these photographs shown here, I sometimes think:
What an curious, great sequence of coincidences!
